Monday & Tuesday Night Fantasy TV schedule

Monday Night

8:00 – 9:00PM The Cumberland Gap; Harry Hamlin, Fred Koehler, Robert Conrad, Marin Hinkle, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, George Dzundza

This heart-warming and oft-times controversial family drama deals with three generations of Cumberland men: Duke, the gruff belligerent patriarch (Robert Conrad); Clay, the prodigal son and mega-movie star (Harry Hamlin); and Daniel, the introverted yet wildly creative teenage grandson (Fred Koehler). Marin Hinkle co-stars as Koehler’s neurotic co-dependent mother, Constance, a former one-night stand of Clay’s, who desperately longs to win Clay’s heart and bring together the Cumberland men to create the family she never knew as a child. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Saylor Moore, a classmate of Daniel’s who also happens to be an up-and-coming fashion model/actress as well as Daniel’s unrequited love interest. Things grow even more complicated as grandpa Duke romantically pursues Constance, Saylor makes moves on dad Clay, and Clay enjoys dalliances with star-struck fans of all ages and genders. All the while, Daniel observes every details, which he then relates to his bemused therapist, Dr. Leonard Banks (George Dzundza).

9:00 – 10:00PM Hard Million; Host – Stone Cold Steve Austin

Each week, a team of six contestants band together to steal $1,000,000 from a heavily guarded vault. The team is assisted by a variety of guest experts who help them formulate a plan and acquire the gadgets needed to pull off the job. The last half-hour of the show is then devoted to the heist itself, and team members can be “killed,” captured or otherwise eliminated as the action progresses. If the team pulls it off, all surviving members get to split the loot.

10:00 – 11:00PM Sleepwalker; Perry King, Stacey Dash, Horace Yulin, Angie Everhart, Susanna Thompson, Brie Larson

After legally dying for fifteen minutes during a brutal assault, college history professor Kenneth Vincent (Perry King) awakes to discover that his consciousness can leave his body every night as he sleeps. In his invisible disembodied form, Professor Vincent decides to investigate the seemingly random act of violence that resulted in his assault, the murder of his wife, Claire (Susanna Thompson), and the torture-rape of his now traumatized teenage daughter, Carey (Brie Larson). While pursuing the bad guys, Professor Vincent continually sees Claire’s ghost who silently puts him on the trail of other unsolved murders. Vincent, in turn, brings these crimes to the attention of skeptical rookie detective, Tanya Walker (Stacey Dash). Further complicating matters is Cassandra (Angie Everhart), a fellow “sleepwalker” who continually tries to seduce the professor into using his powers for nefarious purposes. Horace Yulin co-stars as Dr. Lucius Jeremiah, the mysterious and vaguely sinister dean of the history department.

Shawnee Smith costars as nymphomaniacal newswoman Kay Benson, and Joe Penny plays egomaniacal veteran anchor Brock Carlson. When Zack and Cindy hit it off, Hillary finds them together in bed, jumps in, and proposes a three-way relationship. Wayne Knight plays Zack’s leering best buddy, Hank, and Jane Sibbet rounds out the cast as the trio’s landlord, a sex-starved fundamentalist Christian who does everything in her power to split up the triad and get Zack for herself.

9:30 – 10:00PM Larger Than Life; Nathan Fillion, Christina Applegate, Bill Fagerbakke, Keegan Connor Tracy, Chad Everett, Suzanne Pleshette, Cynthia Daniel & Brittany Daniel

Famed porno actor Kyle Patterson Jr. aka Rocky Everhardt (Fillion) retires from “the biz” to move back home, settle down, and help his straight-laced, ailing father Kyle Sr. (Everett) run the family hardware store. Pleshette plays Natalie, Kyle Jr.’s open-minded free-spirited mother who wishes to mend the rift between father and son before Sr. passes on. Joanna Bacalso plays Venetia, Harper’s live-in lesbian girlfriend, an actress/model who does not know her lover’s secret identity. Joan Pringle plays Grace Moore, Harper’s suspicious boss.

I see BTH is back for more with his still-unnamed Fantasy TV Network. Looks like some potential break-out hits may be lurking amongst this lot.

"The Cumberland Gap" -- Any show with Bob Conrad is worth watching -- Remember "High Mountain Rangers"?? -- but don't you think this may be a bit too racy for the family hour? I'd suggesting moving it back to the 9 PM slot.

"Hard Million" -- Certainly sounds entertaining. I hope the heist techniques are shown IN DETAIL, with maybe a last-minute recap on how the team could have avoided some of their mistakes. Might qualify as "educational" programming.

"Sleepwalker" -- I suppose I'd go with Perry King if Simon MacCorkindale was unavailable. Seems a shame to waste the brilliant Susanna Thompson in a non-speaking role. Otherwise sounds like a smart and stylish sci-fi thriller. I'd watch it.

"Carly" -- Even the ineffible Joe Penny can't save this tired retread of sit-com conventions! The whole "workplace comedy" thing has been done to death, don't you think? Sheesh!

"Authors" -- Speaking of workplace comedy, now we're getting laughs out of people reading and writing? Maybe you could sex it up by having real authors make cameos as themselves, you know, like Mark Victor Hansen or T.C. Boyle.

"2 to 1" -- BTH continues to ram his sexual perverions down America's throat in this raunchy sit-com. All I can say is, will it play in Peoria?

"Larger Than Life" -- A good-looking cast and a premise that stresses redemption spells a winner for BTH and his fledgling network, but does it have the legs to go a full season without jumping the shark?

"Stilleto" -- Clearly one of those shows that will never go away, but will be re-run forever in cable syndication. I will definitely be first in line to buy the Complete First Season DVD. Charisma is unforgettable in her skin-tight costumes, Ronny Cox has the chops to serve as the show's anchor, and no one is more deserving of a major comeback vehicle than the titanic Thom Bray! This will be BTH's biggest hit yet! I can't wait!

BTH may yet give me a run for my money. We'll see...

Cumberland Gap & Hard Million - We're going to try this arrangement first, but our programming chief is considering switching these two shows' time slots. We'll have to see how it plays in Peoria. I'm glad to see you agree with me concerning Mr. Conrad, who always has been one of my favorite TV actors. I'm surprised you made no comment concerning Marin Hinkle, who I believe was quite a steal for my fledgeling network. I'm surprised the execs at Tony TV didn't snatch her up first. Truly we blessed with such a talent. Hard Million will feature detailed analyses of the various heists, and yes the recap will illuminate how the various teams could have been more effective and beaten the different security systems.

Sleepwalker - Thompson will be featured in flashback sequences where audiences will get a true taste of her acting chops. This is a conspiracy-based thriller as well as a supernatural drama. Horace Yulin - another thespian treasure scooped up by BTH TV - will play a prominent role as the series develops, and the audience will begin to see that Claire's death and Carey's assault have deep ritualistic significance to an ages-old secret society.

Carly - Retread?? Hardly!!! This is scintillating sitcom magic with quirky writing and an eminently affable cast. Carly is at her quirky coquetish best, and Penny's comedic talents shine throughout. The "blind date" theme gives us a chance to use different guest stars every week while keeping the show fresh. This is the new Seinfeld.

Authors - Witty, urbane and slacker street-smart - Authors will be the new Friends. Your denigration of the workplace comedy is typically narrow minded. Successful comedy doesn't begin with concept. It starts with hip funny writing and a talented cast.

2 to 1 - This will play in Peoria and everywhere else. BTH TV writers will make sure this comedy stays clever and edgy without going for the cheap laugh. The real crux here is the three-way "marriage" of the stars where we will see alliances and conflicts played out on a weekly basis. Throwing in a fundie landlord with designs on Zack adds further friction to the mix.

Larger Than Life - I'm glad you see the strength in casting. Fillion is always a winner, and Applegate and the Daniel sisters will finally get a chance to do the kind of work they can be proud of. And look out for Keegan Tracy. She was the only watchable asset of the WB's "Jake 2.0," and her unrequited love for Kyle sets up a classic triangle. As for Chad and Suzanne, prime time has missed them, and BTH TV welcomes them back with open arms.

Stiletto - I'm happy to see that you recognize a true winner here. This will be no Black Scorpion, believe you me. I see it combining the best elements of Dark Angel, Buffy and the first season of Alias. Charisma will hook the viewers immediately and never let them go.
